Here is a record of what we discussed at our general meeting on Saturday 8th November at 4 pm at the Gerald Hotel.
Anne Karczub welcomed the group, and offered tea, coffee, muffins and fruit.
Why is it important to have a strong tree canopy?

Geraldton has a tree canopy covering 7.6% of the land. Urban targets are set at 30%.
Geraldton Tree Canopy Advocates take a three-pronged approach:
- Advocacy
- Education
- Inspiration
To support these efforts, we have gratefully received donations from private individuals, corporations and grants from Midwest Port and Bendigo Bank. Kirrilee’s local championship fund.
We have enjoyed our partnership with Ray White Real Estate, who support planting trees in each home sold. Providing trees for local schools to plant in celebration of National Schools Tree Day and supporting the Birds In Trees Art Exhibition have been the source of delight.
We have provided education and promoting the value of trees via a stall at the Chapman Valley Show, a float in the Sunshine Festival Parade, a monthly segment on Triple M radio and presentations to the City of Greater Geraldton, talks given to Probus and Geraldton Seniors.
Our public visibility has been improved by our striking green vests, new signs to use when planting or for information stalls and this website.
Our work in growing new tress and supporting young trees is wonderfully sustained by our growing team of volunteers who contribute by activities such as watering individual trees, manning the roster for watering bulk trees using the 1000L pod on a trailer, and planting trees.
